Feiner wrote in The Synagogue as a Support System "Synagogues
can be the hub of a rich community life and enhance their members’ lives
by helping to dispel the feelings of isolation and providing support
in life crises and its joy in ways that are Jewish and essential
in contemporary society. `The
synagogue is a natural helping network with a pool of knowledge,
resources and competencies, which can be mobilized so the lives of
members are strengthened and enriched as they both give and receive."
At
KI we have an opportunity through Mitzvah Corps to reach out and
help others while fostering not only a sense of community, but even
more importantly, making KI a Caring Community.
There
are many ways to become involved in this very worthwhile “mitzvah.” You
can:
- Volunteer
to help provide transportation for congregants who no longer drive
- Help
make meals for shut ins or those who have been hospitalized
- Help
prepare meals at our twice-a-year cook-ins
- Become
a “friendly
visitor” or make phone calls
to let ill congregants know we are thinking about them.
For
any information about Mitzvah Corps, or to volunteer, please call
either Debi Nelson at 610 530-3186 or Maryellen
Blass at 610 437- 5345.
